As part of their Fall 2009 Collection, Urban Decay came out with six cream eyeliners. Your girl has been testing the shades out for a week now and has the low down on everything you need to know about these inks.

Lets do this in a new style - The Good, The Bad and The Ugly Style. This is how I indulge my love for cowboys and ranches. I am listening to Conway Twitty as I write this...

Its been a long time you're just as lovely....as you used to be...

The Good

The packaging !! We've got the pretty peacock sitting atop the case.
Or is it handsome ?

I got it. Handsome peacock with pretty feathers !

Open the gunmetal case and there you have a long narrow panel with the shade and beside it, is the applicator - an angled eyeliner brush and the smudger. One of the few times we get a brush that is actually very good. The liner brush picks up the right amount of color and the smudger very gently helps haze out the color. No other tools required !

Its creamy. Very creamy. The black and brown shades are exceptionally creamy. The green was the least creamy.

Since its so creamy and we have the good smudger brush I did the bedroom eyes look with it. This liner is the bomb when it comes to bedroom eyes. I generally don't like brown shades on my eyes but this brown liner makes for one the prettiest hazy bedroom eye look. The other colors work well too. My other favorite was the blue for this look. Just apply a thick line across upper lash line and a thin one across the outer edge of lower lash line and gently smudge. So easy, so gorgeous !

The Ink for eyes ain't just another eyeliner, man ! Its for the brows too ! After I smudged my eyes with the brown liner I ran the smudger along my brows and there I had it - filled in brows with one sweep of the smudger. You can use left over color like this !

We don't waste nothing around here. No Ma'am, not on The AIMB Ranch.

Its so slim, it fits anywhere. With their Pocket Rocket on one side and this on the other, we have a complete look !

The Bad

So they are creamy and they smudge easily and that's good right.

Not always. No.

What if I wanted the thin liner look. What if I was going for the vintage liner on upper lash line look ? Does it work for that ?

Not a whole lot. Not by itself. If you want to do the vintage liner look, you must set it with an eyeshadow of similar color. This is because the staying power is very less. If its just for a couple of hours it might hold up but not for a day at school or work. At the very least one must set it with translucent powder.

The shades are a bit on the sheer side. The brown (demolition) is the most pigmented shade along with black (zero) but the other three shades are kinda sheer. The sixth shade - Pyrotechnics is a shimmery translucent shade that can be worn on its own or on top of any of these shades to add a bit of shimmer. I did not try this one.

The Ugly

I really don't have anything to fit this category. But I can show you a boo boo I made.

See the ring on top of the original liner. Result of not setting the liner with translucent powder. One hot mess in one hour.

I LOVE this makeup remover! I've taken a complete break from my usual makeup remover cloths and have been using this product religiously. This Cleanse Off Oil performs fantastically, gently melting all traces of makeup, leaving clean, soft and supple skin. I couldn't be any happier..HG material right here!

How I use it:

First, I smooth one complete pump* of the cleansing oil over my "dry" face and begin massaging in circular motions. Almost instantly, the makeup begins to break down and dissolve. Next, I wet my hands with warm water, and continue to massage my face to emulsify the oil. This step turns the oil into a white lotion like consistency. After, I rinse my entire face with warm water, and carefully repeat the process for each eye. Lastly, though it is not necessary, I follow up with my regular skincare cleanser and skincare routine.

*You may use more or less cleanse off oil depending on how heavy your initial makeup application is.

Unlike most other makeup removers, MAC Cleanse Off Oil does not contain mineral oil; a suspected carcinogen and premature ager -yuck-. I love the lightness of this formula and citrus like scent; it reminds me of oranges. :) A great plus is the lock pump; it keeps the product sanitary and spill proof. I was very pleased to find that there was virtually no stinging and/or eye irritation. WIN! Though, as with most oil based removers, when used around the eye area it may temporarily cloud your vision. A few passes with warm water should clear them once again.

Would I repurchase? Definitely!!

MAKE UP FOR EVER creates wonderful performing products that always seem to win me over. Thus far, this is my absolute favorite eye makeup remover! You can read about my favorite face makeup remover here. When nothing seems to be getting the job done, rest assured, I can always count on this baby. The formula is a gel, cream like consistency, formulated without mineral oil -WIN- and sky blue, so you can see when you're just about out. The scent is very clean. As you may know, I always prefer to have a lock pump, to avoid spillage and keep everything sanitary, as this product has, but the real magic is what's inside and how quickly and gently it melts all traces of waterproof makeup. Because so little is needed to get the job done, I don't mind the price tag as much; as one bottle has lasted me a good 3-4 months or longer.

Its perfect timing to find a fantastic dupe for Deborah Lippman Happy Birthday polish because right now Deb is doing her rounds on HSN presenting some of her new nail kits, one of which, includes the super popular multi-colored glitter polish, Happy Birthday. So it was a welcome coincidence that I was at CVS today and came across an exact dupe in Milani "Gems" for around $5. DL glittler polishes run around $20 so you are saving a good $15 for, like I said, an EXACT dupe. I can't speak to the quality similarities between the two as far as formula and lasting power goes but as far as the appearance, Milani Gems is a dead ringer. Right down to the various shapes and sizes of the confetti-like glitter and how much coverage you get with each coat. It's downright scary. Milani must have someone on the inside because they nailed this dupe to a tee! Take into consideration when looking at Milani VS DL, it does matter which polish you wear underneath it to determine how it will look. I tried to find pictures where there wasn't an obvious color like pink or blue underneath the glitter polish because I found that it may cloud the judgment of the similarities between the two.

The infamous and beloved Lashblast. Perhaps the current best selling drugstore mascara to date. This is not a fact, but rather, a presumption. I've been trying to decide whether I like this stuff for the last year or more. Something I do like about it is the large brush, but on the flipside the large brush makes it hard to get the lower lashes without looking like you've applied eyeliner instead of mascara. I do think Lashblast holds the curl very well and stays throughout the day. The downside is that it makes my lashes crispy and spiky if I don't hurry the hell up and put a few coats on back to back to back before it dries. Lashblast is rather volumizing but not sure sure about lengthening. I am proud of CG for finally being a frontrunner for drugstore mascara when the category has always (in my opinion) belonged to L'Oreal.

Last week I went to a MAC store and attended the Style Warriors Event which was by invitation only. They had yummy canapes, wonderful green tea and mint mojitos and of course new makeup for us to oogle over. I promised myself I wasn't going to go nuts and buy everything in site just because it was available to me. I bought the colors that I myself will use and that I think my brides are going to love and also what I would use for photo shoots. They had bronzers and shadows and liquid face highlighter and so on. Sometimes ladies the permanent colors are just repackaged so I made sure that I bought some different things. The most impressive and eye catching items for me were the Lustre Drops. The minute I saw them in preview pictures and I was itching to get my hands on those. I'm going to have fun with them this summer.

I've been using MAC's Face and Body Foundation or about two years now and it is one of my main go to foundations for summer. I typically prefer medium coverage in a foundation but, in hot and humid climates I prefer a lighter, more natural coverage and an oil-free, water based foundation. This particular product is great because it has buildable coverage for the face and body, meaning if you apply your foundation and find its too sheer just apply more on top until you get the coverage you desire and it still won't look heavy. Also, you can use a darker shade of foundation on your legs and body and rub it in and you get instant color. The Face and Body foundation is very easy to blend and its long-lasting. The consistency is almost water like when squeezed out from its nozzle tip but it quickly disappears into your skin once blended (see pic 2).

I use this foundation on brides quite often because it applies easily and can be manipulated depending on the type of applicator you use, whether it be a sponge wedge, a 187 or 190 brush or even your fingers. I love applying this with a drop or two of MAC's Strobe Liquid or Benefits High Beam, both of which add an angelic, sheer highlight to the face and shoulders, and collar bones, without looking powdery. You can even pour this liquid into an airbrush gun and it works perfectly. Although this foundation is very sheer looking it delivers professional results and it photographs beautifully.

This foundation is available in a wide range of colors and comes in a large 120ml bottle. Its only sold at MAC Stores and available on the MAC Pro website. Next time you are in a MAC store make sure to ask for a sample. As a side note, I have never experienced an acne breakout while using this foundation.

Moisturizer Comparison: Hawaiian Tropic vs Jergens – Glow Naturally

Spring brings the rains, the sounds of birds, gardening, and the smell of …. self-tanner? Most of us feel like we look slimmer and healthier with some tan, but aren’t willing to take the health risks of a natural tan. The goal is the look of a natural tan, which has not always been so easy to obtain. Self-tanners of years past left us blotchy, unnaturally colored, and with orange palms.

Jergens was the first on the market to introduce a gradual self-tanner, which you apply daily as a moisturizer, and gradually develop a natural-looking tan. Because of the series of applications, the chance of uneven coloring is slim, and the user can stop reduce frequency when the desired color is achieved. But is being the first the same as being the best?

All self-tanners work on the same concept. The key ingredient is dihydroxyacetone(DHA). DHA is a colorless sugar that interacts with the dead cells located in the stratum corneum of the epidermis. As the sugar interacts with the dead skin cells, a color change occurs. The longer you can keep your dead skin cells, the longer you can keep your tan – thus you should exfoliate before using a self-tanner product. All products instruct the customer to apply daily, and wait “several days” for the tan to develop. As long as moisturizer is applied evenly, any small differences will even out over the course of the repeated application, and the color result will be even.

Jergens Natural Glow Daily Moisturizer and Hawaiian Tropic Island Glow Daily Moisturizer are similar to each other and other self-tanners in many respects, but there are two key differences: scent and color.

Scent

Jergens Natural Glow Daily Moisturizer is a good product, but it has one big problem: the smell. All self-tanner products have some (similar) odor due to the DHA ingredients used. The odor can be masked with other scents, as is typical for moisturizers, but when the pleasant scent dissipates, the DHA scent remains. In fact, this scent was bad enough that even I, who am unfortunately as pale as death, did not find it to be worth the trade-off. Even I, the uber-frugal, threw away the remainder of the tube of lotion.

The other manufacturers needed some time to catch up, but in my opinion the best alternative to Jergens is Hawaiian Tropic Island Glow Daily Moisturizer. While it still has some of the unavoidable DHA order, the scent is not unpleasant. Or at least, it is relatively more pleasant than competing products. Although it is the worse choice for scent, Jergens Natural Glow Daily Moisturizer does provide more color with the same amount of application. This may the reason it has stronger scent. Most people do not feel this is a good trade-off, and simply use the “medium” tint of the Hawaiian Tropic Island Glow Daily Moisturizer lotion instead of “light”. Hawaiian Tropic Island Glow Daily Moisturizer comes in light or medium only. Jergens Natural Glow Daily Moisturizer provides darker color and offers more choices. Natural Glow Daily Moisturize comes in fair, medium, and medium-tan (dark), and also offers additional products (not reviewed)

Product Line-up

Neither product is appropriate for using on your face, for most people, because it is designed as body lotion and too thick and clogs pores on the face. For the face Jergens makes a separate product, which I have not yet reviewed. Jergens makes Jergens Natural Glow Face Daily Moisturizer, which I have not reviewed. A third option in the Natural Glow line-up is the Jergens Natural Glow Face Daily Moisturizer with SPF 20.

Hawaiian Tropic does not make a self-tanner product designed for the face. There are no other products in the Hawaiian Tropic Island Glow Daily Moisturizer line-up.

Recommendation

I use and recommend the Hawaiian Tropic Island Glow Daily Moisturizer. The color of Hawaiian Tropic Island Glow Daily Moisturizer is sufficient for me, and the scent of Jergens Natural Glow Daily Moisturizer is a deal-breaker.

Peter Lamas knows a thing or two about beauty….he has written two books been a celebrity stylist to the stars and now he has his own line of beauty products called Peter Lamas Products. Peter has always been aware of how beauty products and certain chemicals in them affect women. When he started losing them to cancer, he took a long hard look at beauty products and the ingredients in them. As a result of personal experiences relating to family, close friends and clients, Peter became acutely aware to the scary reality that many common products — including and especially health and beauty products which we all apply to our hair, skin, teeth and bodies – contain known carcinogens or potential carcinogens, and can have devastating consequences for our long-term health.

I recently spoke to Peter about his product line and his passion for beauty….

Lianne: The results people are getting from your Chinese Herbs collection is amazing. How did you decide to start using Chinese Herbs and how did you figure out it grew hair?

Peter: I am so excited that it’s doing well. Eastern medicine has a proven track record over thousands of years so I had an idea that it would work. I contacted a famous herbalist who happens to be a good friend and we worked together to formulate something that would do just that – grow hair.

Lianne: But the results are astonishing, I mean really crazy that hair is growing inches for people in a very short time.

Peter: Yes they are…..I have several male celebrities that have stopped using minoxodil in favor of the chinese herbs line because it has worked so well for them.

Lianne: Like who??? Can you say?

Peter: I sure can, Keifer Sutherland and Michael Masdson are the most prominent ones.

Lianne: Wow! That’s a big deal!

Peter: It sure is! I very excited and happy it is working for them. I have been using it for a while now myself and my hairline actually started growing in lower on my forehead. The principe behinf the line is that it helps keep your scalp free of anything that can clog the hair folicle. Then the ingredients can get deeper and do their work.

Lianne: What would you recommend for the Chinese Herbs regime if someone wanted to start?

Peter: For sure the shampoo, conditioner and serum.

Lianne: I see you have been on a bit of a beauty tour recently. Where is the next stop??

Peter: I was just in Las Vegas at CosmoProf and I will be in New York from the 28^th of July thru the 3^rd of August promoting our line of products in new and different Duane Reade stores. Plus one grand opening on the 3^rd of August at Union Square. I have the locations posted on the Facebook page.

Lianne: Facebook, wow how savvy!

Peter: I try and keep up with technology, I’m even tweeting a little!

Lianne: Fantastic!! Tell me a little about your skincare line?

Peter: We have a skincare line that follows the same principles as the hair care. I wanted to create something that was as good as a higher end line with natural and organic ingredients. We are finalizing the new elegant packaging, which we will be launching either the end of this year or the very beginning of next year.

Lianne: That’s great, I have tried a few of the items and I must say I am impressed. The whole brand is kind of going through a makeover isn’t it?

Peter: Yes it is, top to bottom. We are putting the final touches for the launching of our newly designed website by the beginning or middle of August. It is stunning, I am so excited.

Lianne: You have been getting tons of press recently, anything new in the pipline as far as events go besides the Duane Reade appearances?

Peter: Yes….people have been saying great things which always makes me happy, including you! So glad you likes the Rice Protein line! We were just featured on Vanity Fair.com. I was very impressed with the comments from the Beauty Editor. We are preparing to attend and participate in the Emmy Awards Gift Suite event. It goes for two days before the Emmy’s presentation. I will let you know the dates as soon as I have them. I know it’s the last week in August.

Lianne: I know you are very pasisonate about being a natural product, can you tell me what made you steer in that direction?
